Gotham Bar & Steakhouse, Vancouver
We’re big fans of Art Deco and the cocktail bar at Gotham Vancouver typifies that style. From it’s subdued lighting and extended dark-wood bar with chrome highlights to its giant deco mural, the atmosphere is designed for one thing: encouraging the drinking of fine cocktails. We love it!
There is nothing the bartenders can’t make. Yet their first attempt on our benchmark was heavy on the vermouth and slightly watery. True to their professional form though, it was quickly banished to to the bar sink and a much more pleasing version arrived. Maybe in their haste to offer such a varied drinks list, the skills necessary to prepare the classics have been neglected.
In this case we think it was more likely a communication problem between server and bartender.
None of this should put you off from visiting and enjoying this unique establishment. And of course, there’s always one of Vancouver’s finest steakhouses adjacent to the bar…
